Honest Guidance & Anti Scam Education

Manchester School of Modelling®: Educating, Empowering and Protecting Aspiring Talent

Real Education. Honest Guidance. Professional Development. No False Promises.

The modelling, television and entertainment industries offer exciting opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds. However, knowing where to begin, who to trust and how to recognize genuine opportunities can be challenging.

Unfortunately, fraudulent modelling agencies, fake casting advertisements, misleading social media messages and unrealistic promises have made aspiring talent increasingly vulnerable to exploitation.

At Manchester School of Modelling®, we believe every aspiring model and performer deserves honest information, professional guidance and the knowledge to navigate the industry safely.

Our mission goes far beyond creating professional portfolios. We are committed to educating, developing, empowering and protecting aspiring talent.

We believe that understanding the industry is just as important as entering it.

More Than a Modelling School

Manchester School of Modelling® is a modelling and talent development school dedicated to helping aspiring talent build confidence, develop professional skills and understand the realities of the entertainment industry.

We recognize that every individual is different. Some may be suited to commercial modelling, others to fashion, television advertisements, acting, supporting artist work or other areas of the entertainment industry.

Our approach focuses on assessing each individual’s current abilities, recognizing their strengths and providing realistic guidance on their next steps.

Our development services include:

  • Professional portfolio development: Helping aspiring talent create professional images suited to their individual goals.

  • Confidence and personal development: Building self-belief, communication skills and professional presentation.

  • Runway and catwalk training: Developing posture, movement and presentation skills.

  • Showreels and monologues: Supporting those interested in acting, television and commercial opportunities.

  • Social media training: Teaching pupils how to present themselves professionally and navigate online platforms safely.

  • Casting and audition preparation: Helping individuals understand casting processes and industry expectations.

  • Agency guidance: Educating pupils about reputable agencies and suitable application opportunities.

  • Anti-scam awareness: Helping aspiring talent recognize fraudulent agencies, fake casting invitations and suspicious communications.

Our aim is to equip pupils with the confidence, knowledge and practical skills to approach the industry professionally.

Proud to Have Helped Protect Hundreds of Aspiring Models

Anti-scam awareness is not simply something we teach. It is one of the foundations of our school and something we are incredibly proud of.

Through our education, guidance and awareness work, we have helped protect hundreds of aspiring models from potential scams, fraudulent agencies and misleading opportunities.

We have seen first-hand how vulnerable individuals can become when pursuing their ambitions, particularly when they are unfamiliar with how the modelling and entertainment industries operate.

We believe no aspiring model should be exploited simply because they have dreams.

Our commitment extends beyond professional training. We educate pupils about fraudulent agencies, help them identify suspicious direct messages, promote reputable industry contacts and provide guidance on navigating opportunities safely.

Our support can also continue after pupils have secured agency representation, including helping them recognize suspicious communications and understand potential online risks.

For us, success is not measured solely by how many pupils secure representation or casting opportunities. It is also measured by how many people leave our school more informed, confident and better equipped to protect themselves.

  • We are incredibly proud of the work we do and the positive difference we continue to make.

  • We don’t just develop talent. We educate, empower and protect it.

  • Our Important Advice: Never Pay an Agency Upfront for Promises of Work

  • One of the most important messages we share with aspiring models is:

  • Never pay an agency an upfront fee simply for the promise of being signed, guaranteed representation or guaranteed modelling work.

Under UK regulations, fashion and photographic modelling agencies cannot charge upfront work-finding fees, including upfront charges for placing models’ details on websites or in publications.

Legitimate agencies may earn agreed commission from work they secure for their models.

Different rules can apply to certain acting and entertainment agency services, so it is important to understand the type of representation being offered.

We encourage aspiring talent to:

  • Research an agency before signing any agreement.

  • Check its professional reputation and official contact details.

  • Understand commission structures and contractual terms.

  • Be cautious of promises of guaranteed earnings or immediate employment.

  • Never make payments under pressure.

  • Verify casting invitations before sharing personal information or photographs.

A reputable agency should be transparent about its services, commission and contractual arrangements.

We believe aspiring talent should understand their rights and know how to recognise warning signs before entering into professional agreements.

Can You Apply for Castings Without Being Signed to an Agency?

Absolutely. You do not always need agency representation to begin exploring opportunities.

Many aspiring models, actors and performers start by applying for freelance opportunities while developing their experience, improving their portfolios and working towards professional representation.

There are established casting platforms that allow individuals to create profiles, explore available opportunities and, depending on membership and eligibility, submit applications independently.

Some platforms offer free services, while others operate through paid subscriptions.

A legitimate casting platform subscription is different from paying an agency for the promise of representation or guaranteed employment.

Established Casting Platforms Worth Exploring

StarNow

StarNow provides casting opportunities across modelling, acting, television, commercials, presenting and other creative industries.

It can be useful for individuals looking to explore freelance opportunities and build practical experience.

Mandy Network

Mandy Network focuses on opportunities within film, television, theatre and entertainment, including acting and production-related roles.

Backstage

Backstage is an established casting platform featuring opportunities across acting, modelling, commercials, voiceover and other performance categories.

Spotlight

Spotlight is a professional casting platform widely used within the UK acting and entertainment industry.

Membership has eligibility requirements, which may include qualifying professional credits, recognised training or an accepted industry recommendation.

For eligible performers, Spotlight can be a useful platform for accessing professional casting opportunities.

Important: No casting platform can guarantee employment, auditions or agency representation.

We encourage pupils to research subscription fees, cancellation terms and individual casting notices carefully.

Even on established platforms, applicants should verify the legitimacy of opportunities before sharing personal information, making payments or attending auditions.

At Manchester School of Modelling, we believe education should give pupils the confidence to explore opportunities independently while understanding the risks involved.

Our Assessment Process: Understanding Your Individual Potential

  • Not everyone who enters the entertainment industry will be suited to the same type of work.

  • That is why we believe individual assessment and honest guidance are essential.

  • At Manchester School of Modelling, we assess each person’s current level, confidence, presentation and potential areas of development.

  • We consider which opportunities may be appropriate for their individual strengths, interests and experience.

  • For some, this may involve exploring commercial modelling or fashion opportunities.

  • For others, it may mean developing acting skills, preparing showreels, exploring television commercials or gaining experience in supporting artist roles.

  • Some pupils may benefit from additional training or portfolio development before approaching agencies.

  • We believe in providing realistic guidance rather than telling every individual what they want to hear.

  • Our role is to help pupils recognize their potential while understanding the commitment required to develop it.

Success Does Not Happen Overnight

One of the biggest misconceptions about modelling and entertainment is that attending a photoshoot, creating a portfolio or completing a training programme automatically leads to paid work.

That is not how the industry operates.

Building a successful career takes dedication, commitment, professionalism, resilience and self-belief.

Even experienced models and performers face rejection.

Not every agency application will be successful. Not every audition will lead to a booking, and not every individual will secure professional representation.

At Manchester School of Modelling, we do not promise overnight success, guaranteed agency contracts or guaranteed paid employment.

We believe that honest expectations are essential.

Our focus is on helping pupils develop their skills, understand the industry and prepare for opportunities that may be suitable for them.

We do not believe in selling false dreams. We believe in education, preparation, dedication and self-belief.

Why Do We Require a £35 Refundable Booking Deposit?

At Manchester School of Modelling®, we believe in complete transparency, particularly when it comes to booking fees and payments.

Our introductory appointments are carefully planned and require us to reserve professional resources in advance, including photographers, makeup artists, studio facilities, equipment, staff time and a dedicated appointment slot for each individual.

When an appointment is booked, these resources and that time are set aside specifically for the client.

If someone does not attend or cancels at short notice, it can prevent another person from using the appointment and may leave professional resources unused.

For this reason, we require a £35 refundable booking deposit to secure an appointment.

What Does the £35 Booking Deposit Cover?

The deposit helps us:

  • Confirm that the appointment is genuine and intended to proceed.

  • Reserve the required photographer, makeup artist, studio space and staff time.

  • Reduce missed appointments and last-minute cancellations.

  • Manage our professional resources fairly and efficiently.

  • Protect the quality and availability of appointments for all clients.

Is the £35 Booking Deposit Refundable?

Yes. The £35 booking deposit is refundable in accordance with our booking terms and conditions.

Alternatively, clients can choose to use their £35 booking deposit towards:
  • Digital images of their choice from their photoshoot.

  • Any available portfolio package.

  • Any available development or training package.

This gives clients the flexibility to request their deposit refund under the applicable terms or use the full £35 value towards images or services they choose to purchase.

The refund process, applicable conditions and image or package credit options are explained during the booking process.

Does the Booking Deposit Guarantee Modelling Work?

Absolutely not.

The £35 deposit is not a payment for agency representation, modelling contracts, guaranteed casting opportunities or employment.

It is simply a booking deposit to help secure the professional resources required for your appointment.

Any optional portfolio packages, training programmes or additional services are explained separately, allowing clients to make informed decisions without any obligation to purchase.

We encourage prospective clients to read their booking information carefully and ask questions if anything is unclear.

Our commitment is simple: honest information, transparent fees, professional development and realistic expectations.

At Manchester School of Modelling®, we believe trust begins with transparency.

Is Manchester School of Modelling a Modelling Agency?

No. Manchester School of Modelling is a modelling and talent development school.

There is an important distinction between a school and a modelling agency.

A modelling agency typically represents talent and seeks professional work on their behalf.

A modelling school provides education, training, professional development and industry guidance.

Our role is to help aspiring talent develop confidence, understand professional expectations and explore appropriate opportunities.

We provide guidance on reputable agencies and suitable applications, but agency representation and paid work are not guaranteed.

We want pupils to understand exactly what services they are receiving and what those services are designed to achieve.

What About Online Reviews?

We understand that prospective clients and parents often research online reviews before choosing a modelling school.

We actively encourage people to carry out their own research and ask questions before making decisions.

We value positive feedback and take genuine concerns seriously.

The modelling and entertainment industries can involve significant differences between individual expectations and actual outcomes.

Some individuals may believe that completing a professional photoshoot or development programme will immediately lead to modelling contracts or paid work.

Unfortunately, no school can guarantee those outcomes.

We believe it is our responsibility to explain our services clearly, provide realistic expectations and ensure clients understand the nature of the opportunities available.

We are committed to listening to feedback, addressing legitimate concerns and continuously improving our services.

Trust should be earned through honesty, transparency, professional conduct and accountability.

We welcome questions about our school, our services, our booking process, our refundable booking deposit and what pupils can realistically expect.

Protecting Young Talent and Supporting Parents

For parents considering modelling or entertainment opportunities for their children, safeguarding and transparency are especially important.

Young people can be vulnerable to fraudulent casting invitations, misleading social media messages and inappropriate online approaches.

We believe parents and young performers should understand how legitimate opportunities operate and how to recognise potential warning signs.

Our educational approach promotes confidence, responsible decision-making, online awareness and professional conduct.

We encourage parents and guardians to remain actively involved in their child’s development and any professional applications. No aspiring young performer should feel pressured into making payments, sharing inappropriate images or attending unverified casting arrangements.

Safety and education should always come first.

Why We Are Proud of Manchester School of Modelling

We are proud to be a school that places education, transparency and anti-scam awareness at the centre of its approach.

We are proud of the pupils who have developed their confidence, improved their skills and taken positive steps towards their ambitions.

And we are especially proud of the hundreds of aspiring models we have helped educate and protect from potential exploitation.

For us, the value of our work goes beyond photographs, portfolios and casting applications.

It is about helping people recognize their worth, understand the industry and make informed decisions about their future.

We want aspiring talent to pursue their ambitions with confidence, not confusion. Knowledge, not false promises. And ambition supported by realistic expectations.

That is what Manchester School of Modelling stands for.
