Protecting Young Talent: Why Manchester School of Modelling® Requires Parental Involvement for Applicants Aged 19 and Under
At Manchester School of Modelling®, we believe empowering young people means more than helping them build confidence, develop their skills and explore opportunities within the modelling, television and entertainment industries.
It also means protecting their wellbeing, encouraging responsible decision-making and ensuring they have appropriate guidance and support when making important choices about their future.
Effective from Monday, 12 October 2026, Manchester School of Modelling® introduced a new safeguarding and responsible decision-making policy for all applicants aged 19 and under.
Under this company policy, no applicant aged 19 or under may enter into a financial agreement or make a financial commitment during their studio visit without the involvement of a parent or responsible adult.
This is a deliberate decision reflecting our values as a professional modelling and talent development school.
We believe a young person’s wellbeing should always come before a sale.
Why Have We Introduced This Policy?
The modelling and entertainment industries offer exciting opportunities for aspiring talent.
For many young people, attending a professional photography experience can be an important and memorable step towards exploring their ambitions.
However, pursuing these interests can also involve decisions about professional portfolios, training programmes, development opportunities and financial commitments.
We recognise that young people may feel excited, enthusiastic or overwhelmed when discussing their potential and future opportunities.
We never want an applicant to feel pressured into making a significant financial decision without appropriate guidance, support or time to consider their options.
Our new policy is designed to encourage responsible decision-making and ensure that young applicants have someone they trust involved in discussions about optional services and associated costs.
No sale is more important than a young person’s wellbeing.
Can Young People Still Attend Their Photoshoot?
Absolutely.
At Manchester School of Modelling®, we want aspiring young talent to enjoy their photography experience, develop their confidence and explore their potential in a safe, positive and professional environment.
Young applicants can attend their scheduled photography experience where all appropriate age-related consent, supervision and safeguarding requirements have been satisfied.
However, if an applicant aged 19 or under attends without a parent or responsible adult, any feedback appointment involving optional purchases, development packages or financial commitments must be rearranged until a parent or responsible adult can attend.
This means young people can still enjoy their photography experience, but any financial decisions must involve the appropriate adult under our company policy.
For applicants under 18, separate parental consent and safeguarding requirements also apply.
Why Do We Require a Parent or Responsible Adult at the Feedback Appointment?
Our feedback appointments are designed to help aspiring talent understand their individual strengths, potential areas for improvement and possible next steps.
Depending on the individual’s interests, experience and development needs, these discussions may include optional professional images, portfolio packages, training programmes or further development opportunities.
We believe that young people should have the opportunity to discuss these options with someone they trust before making any financial commitment.
Having a parent or responsible adult involved helps ensure that applicants and their families can:
Understand the services being offered and their associated costs.
Ask questions about the benefits and limitations of development programmes.
Review payment arrangements and contractual terms.
Consider whether a particular service is appropriate for the young person’s goals and circumstances.
Make an informed decision without feeling rushed or pressured.
There is absolutely no obligation to purchase additional images, portfolio packages or training simply because someone has attended a photoshoot.
We want every family to feel comfortable asking questions and taking the time they need.
Our Commitment to Ethical Business Practices
At Manchester School of Modelling®, we believe transparency, honesty and responsible business practices are essential when working with aspiring talent.
Our commitments include:
Providing clear and accurate information about our services.
Explaining optional costs before any financial agreement is made.
Ensuring young applicants receive appropriate support when considering financial decisions.
Maintaining realistic expectations about modelling and entertainment opportunities.
Never guaranteeing agency representation, modelling contracts or paid employment.
Encouraging clients and families to make informed decisions without pressure.
We recognise that financial decisions should never be influenced by unrealistic promises about someone’s future.
Although individuals aged 18 and 19 are legally adults in the UK, we have voluntarily extended this additional company policy to include them.
This is our own business standard, introduced to encourage responsible decision-making and family involvement.
We believe ethical business practices should go beyond minimum legal requirements when doing so helps protect and support aspiring talent.
Protecting Young People Beyond the Studio
Our responsibility to aspiring talent goes beyond their photography experience.
At Manchester School of Modelling®, we are committed to educating young people and their families about fraudulent modelling agencies, misleading casting opportunities, suspicious social media messages and unrealistic promises of instant success.
Through our educational guidance and anti-scam awareness work, we are proud to have helped hundreds of aspiring models recognise and avoid potential industry scams.
We encourage aspiring talent to research agencies carefully, verify casting invitations and understand professional agreements before making commitments.
We want young people to feel confident asking questions, recognising warning signs and protecting themselves from potential exploitation.
We don’t just develop talent. We educate, empower and protect it.
A Message to Parents and Guardians
If your child is considering modelling, television, commercials, acting or other entertainment opportunities, we encourage you to remain actively involved in their journey.
Ask questions. Understand the services being offered. Review financial commitments carefully and help your child develop realistic expectations about the industry.
Our team welcomes questions about our school, photography experiences, optional development programmes, booking arrangements and safeguarding procedures.
We want families to feel informed, supported and confident throughout their experience with Manchester School of Modelling®.
For applicants aged 19 and under, a parent or responsible adult must be involved in any studio-based financial agreement or commitment under our company policy.
For applicants under 18, the appropriate parental consent and safeguarding arrangements must also be in place before participating in a photography experience.
Why This Policy Matters to Us
We are proud to operate a school where confidence, education, transparency and responsible decision-making are central to our approach.
Our goal is not simply to create professional photographs or introduce aspiring talent to the industry.
It is to help individuals develop confidence, understand their potential and make informed decisions about their future.
We recognise that aspirations can be powerful, particularly at a young age.
But ambition should always be supported by honest information, appropriate guidance and realistic expectations.
A young person’s ambitions deserve encouragement. Their decisions deserve guidance. And their wellbeing deserves protection.
That is why, from Monday, 12 October 2026, we have made parental or responsible adult involvement a requirement for all studio-based financial agreements involving applicants aged 19 and under.
Our Values Will Always Come Before a Sale
At Manchester School of Modelling®, we believe that a responsible school should measure its success not only through professional development and pupil achievements, but also through the confidence, knowledge and protection it provides.
We want aspiring talent to pursue their ambitions with confidence, not confusion.
Knowledge, not false promises.
And encouragement supported by honesty, transparency and accountability.
Our commitment is simple: to educate, empower and protect aspiring talent at every stage of their journey.
